How “live” population counters actually work
Every ticking population counter on the internet — including this one — is an interpolation, not a measurement. No government publishes births and deaths in real time.
The recipe is: take a published population estimate (an "anchor"), take published rates (crude birth and death rates, net migration), convert them to people-per-second, and add rate × elapsed time to the anchor. That is exactly what LiveNow does, and every page shows the formula.
Why counters disagree
Different sites use different anchors and rates, so two "live" counters will not match. Even within one source, the births-minus-deaths figure and the published growth rate can differ by a few percent — LiveNow shows both rather than hiding the gap.
So enjoy the ticking number, but read it as a visualisation of a model. The honest version is more interesting anyway. Read our full method.
